IDeATe is enhancing the leadership role of CMU in technology-arts based graduate education and research for creative industries.

IDeATe's role in graduate education at Carnegie Mellon includes:

  • Coordinating the Emerging Media master’s program that is offered collaboratively through the College of Fine Arts, the School of Computer Science, and the College of Engineering
  • Facilitating the creation of interdisciplinary technology-arts research teams and related projects that are connected to IDeATe coursework and to a large ecosystem of technology-arts based research at CMU
  • Serves as the administrative home of the Entertainment Technology Center, a premiere professional center for interactive entertainment with a special focus on game design and development, that offers the Masters in Entertainment Technology
  • Partnering activities with a number of intercollegiate graduate degrees spanning technology and the arts including Masters degrees in Integrated Innovation, Music and Technology, and Architecture-Engineering-Construction Management.

Emerging Media

The Emerging Media Masters (EM2) is a collaborative degree offered out of the College of Fine Arts (CFA), School of Computer Science (SCS), and the College of Engineering (CIT). EM2 is based in Pittsburgh with semester/year residency opportunities in New York City* and Silicon Valley.
Integrative Media Program
The Integrative Media Program (IMP) is dedicated to professional education and research for new creative industries with a special focus on themes that merge technology and arts expertise.
The Integrative Media Program (IMP) is dedicated to professional education and research for new creative industries with a special focus on themes that merge technology and arts expertise. The IMP comprises four inter-related, interdisciplinary Masters degrees.
Entertainment Technology Center
The expertise of the ETC in game design and interactive storytelling infuses the educational experience of many CMU students.
The ETC at CMU is a premiere professional center for interactive entertainment as it is applied across a variety of fields, with special focus on the art and science of game design and development. The ETC offers a unique two-year Master of Entertainment Technology (MET) degree.

IDeATe facilitates the creation of interdisciplinary technology-arts research teams and related projects that synergize with a large number of technology-arts based research projects at CMU. Many of the IDeATe graduate collaborative studios have research components to them and some are realized in partnership with industry or community organizations.
