Innovation Roundtable 2018: Collaboration Yields Powerful Research Results

Presented by Carnegie Mellon University Libraries and the Software Engineering Institute, the Innovation Roundtable brings together CMU researchers to discuss how innovation and problem solving are enhanced through cross-disciplinary collaboration. The Roundtable will be Monday, December 3rd, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in CUC Rangos 3. Please RSVP!

With its emphasis on transformative research and the partnerships that bring them to fruition, the Roundtable provides a forum for the CMU community to learn from and engage in conversations with extraordinary scholars on pioneering research findings. The goal of the Roundtable is to bring light to these partnerships, with a focus on the work of SEI, and demonstrate the ways that the Libraries can support cross-disciplinary collaboration. The discussion will be moderated by Laurie Weingart, Interim Provost.

Steiner Lecture in Creative Inquiry: Rob Rogers

On Tuesday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m., the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry (CFA 111) will host editorial cartoonist and School of Art alumnus Rob Rogersfor a Steiner Lecture in Creative Inquiry. Rogers will speak on his work and life followed by a Q&A with Tim Haggerty, Director of the Humanities Scholars Program at CMU. Tickets for this talk are limited! Handmade Arcade

Handmade Arcade BannerHandmade Arcade returns to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Saturday, December 8th. Shop from 200+ innovative artists, crafters and makers. The Hands-on Handmade Activity Area will feature 15 local organizations including Assemble and Girls Write Pittsburgh. Admission and activities are FREE from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Unity Developer Freelance Opportunity

Deeplocal has an upcoming freelance opportunity for a Unity developer. They are looking for someone who specializes in modeling and animation, light, shading, and 3D stack. The developer will need to be available to work as soon as possible through February 6th and be available to travel to San Antonio, TX for on-site tech support from January 30th to February 6th. Television Academy Foundation Internships

The Television Academy Foundation offers 50 television industry internships in over 20 disciplines each summer. These eight-week, paid positions at major media companies provide professional experience, career development and networking opportunities to talented students nationwide in areas such as AR/VR, animation, interactive media, and sound. McGinnis Venture Competition 2019

Amazon Sumerian AR/VR Challenge

Amazon has just launched the Amazon Sumerian Challenge, an online competition to create and publish AR, VR, and immersive apps using Amazon Sumerian's browser-based IDE. Participants will have a chance at over $100,000 in cash and prizes. Learn more at amazonsumerian.devpost.com.

Comedy Central Animated Shorts Program

Comedy Central has just announced their new Animated Shorts Program. This initiative is designed for creators to submit short form animated ideas directly to the network with the potential to sign a development deal. Guidelines and submission portal are available here. Deadline to submit is December 31, 2018.
