Adam Savage Visit to IDeATe plus the Google Geek Street Fair

Adam Savage visits the IDeATe facililty

IDeATe had a really exciting and busy couple of days at the beginning of October. On October 6th, MythBusters' Adam Savage stopped into the IDeATe labs during his tour of innovative maker spaces in the Pittsburgh area. He spoke with students and faculty who have collaborated in the IDeATe spaces and got a peek at just a few of the exciting ways we have integrated creativity and technology. Savage and his film crew were filming for his upcoming web series. We will share more coverage as details are released!

IDeATe's table at the Google Geek Street Faire

On October 7th, Robotics Institute/IDeATe faculty member Garth Zeglin and some students from his Robotics for Creative Practice course attended the Google Geek Street Fair in Bakery Square. Google hosted local schools and businesses in a street fair format in which they displayed their works in the areas of creative technology and making. Local middle school students and community members attended the fair. The IDeATe booth had a lot of visitors and our robots underwent so many cool transformations as the middle schoolers stopped by to add their touch.

IDeATe Open Hours - We'll help you make your stuff!

Since the IDeATe facility opened in 2014, we have had a lot of requests for help with 3D printing and laser cutting from students not currently taking an IDeATe course in Hunt Library. Up until now, we did not have the resources to help, which we really wanted to change. So, we came up with IDeATe Open Hours! A few days a week, from 4:30 - 5:30, students, faculty, and staff can stop in with their files, go over with one of our staff members, and have their project 3D printed or laser cut for them! We will be looking for you input on how to best expand scheduling and other ways to improve so stop in and see us. For more information and file instructions, check the Open Hours page on the IDeATe Resources site.
