Laser Cutters
Our Epilog Fusion Pro Laser Cutters will only be made available during times when they can be staffed by an IDeATe staff member or authorized safety monitor. All laser cutter users must complete the EH&S Laser Cutter Safety training (online only) and the EH&S Fire Extinguisher training (in person only).
NOTE: IDeATe’s laser cutters only cut flat materials such as acrylic, plywood, MDF, cardboard, paper, and fabric. The IDeATe facility limits laser cutting to a limited selection of materials known to be safe.
How to Get Access
If you are an IDeATe student or affiliate:- Complete EH&S Laser Cutter Safey and Fire Extinguisher training.

Thoroughly read the Laser Cutting at IDeATe. This document contains all IDeATe operating procedures, useful tips on using the Epilog Fusion Pro Laser Cutters, and software guidance to prepare files for laser cutting and etching.
- After reading and watching videos in the guide, send one email to help@ideate.cmu.edu asking for access to the laser cutters. Your email should include 3-5 sentences about something you learned specific to the laser cutters at IDeATe and why this matters.

We may be able to help with a one-time arrangement for completion of an academic project. Please fill out the request form here and explain your project. Approval depends on availability of IDeATe time and resources.
