Welcome Back + Updates to IDeATe Minors + First FrIDeATe Events

Welcome Back!

We're excited to see you for the Fall 2018 semester! We have some updates for you regarding minor requirements, First FrIDeATe events, a new member of the School of Art/IDeATe faculty, an additional animation course, where to find us on social media, and changes to the IDeATe Fabrication Lab.

A new mural on the IDeATe fabrication lab wall

IDeATe instructor Louise Larson was tasked with giving our Fabrication Lab a makeover during the summer. When you return, you'll notice that the space is brighter, more functional, and housing some new equipment.

Updates to IDeATe Minors

Two of the IDeATe minors have new titles. Learning Media is now Design for Learning and Sound Design is now Sonic Arts. Additionally, students declaring an IDeATe minor in Fall 2018 and later will follow the updated requirements. The number of courses should be about the same but will require students to take one Computing course, one IDeATe Portal course, and 27 units of courses in the minor area. These changes apply to all but the Innovation & Entrepreneurship minors. If you have not yet declared a minor but were following the earlier requirements, contact help@ideate.cmu.edu and we will advise you.

First FrIDeATe Events + IDeATe Student Events Committee

A common request from students and faculty has been to have more social events for IDeATe. So, the first Friday of every month during fall and spring classes, we'll be having First FrIDeATe events. (Get it? First FrIDeATe?) Our inaugural First FrIDeATe will be September 7th in the Fabrication Lab (Hunt Library A5). We're also recruiting for the IDeATe Student Events Committee to help plan and promote these and other events. Contact help@ideate.cmu.edu if you're interested in lending a hand!
