Call for Submissions: The Art of the Remix + Creative Capital + Gene Kogan

In recognition of Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week 2018, the University Libraries will be holding an exhibit entitled The Art of the Remix, which illustrates what happens when artists remix existing work and make it their own. The exhibit will run from Monday, February 19th – Friday, March 30th on the first floor of Hunt Library. The Libraries is seeking student projects to include in the exhibit, where students have “remixed” copyrighted materials to create something new. This can be in the form of collage, graphics, computer art, or other media. In order to submit your work for consideration, please contact exhibit coordinator Andy Prisbylla via email at andyp@andrew.cmu.edu by Friday, February 9th with the following information:
  • 1-5 images (all images will be completely confidential)
  • Title & Dimensions
  • Type(s) of Media

On Monday, February 5th at 5:00 p.m., Gene Kogan will be giving a talk in the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry. Kogan is an ititinerant artist and computer scientist, interested in the creative potential of generative systems, artificial intelligence, and new software for self-expression. He regularly publishes lectures, writings, and tutorials to facilitate a greater public understanding of machine learning. To this end, Gene initiated and contributes to ML4A, a free book about machine learning for artists, activists, and citizen scientists. Refreshments will be served!

Suzy Delvalle, President and Executive Director of Creative Capital, will visit Hamburg Hall 1204 on Thursday, February 15th, 12:00 - 1:20 p.m. She will discuss her experience as the recently-appointed head of Creative Capital, an innovative arts foundation that adapts venture capital concepts to support individual artists, as well as the direction in which she plans to lead the organization. This free luncthime talk will offer pizza, but RSVP is required.
