IDeATe Showcase at Meeting of the Minds + Jenny Odell + Mediating Urban Scenarios + Game Development Culture at Bungie

IDeATe will have a showcase space at this year's Meeting of the Minds. This is an opportunity for you to show the campus community some of the interesting projects that you've created in your IDeATe courses. If you interested in participating, please register at cmu.edu/uro and choose "IDeATe Presentation" as your presentation type. The deadline to register is April 10th.
This Thursday, March 29th at 6:30 p.m.Jenny Odell will be giving a talk in the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry. Her work combines the mining of online imagery with writing and research, usually in an attempt to highlight the material nature of our modern networked existence. Because her practice involves collecting, tagging and cataloguing, she has often been compared to a natural scientist – specifically, a lepidopterist. She teaches internet art and digital/physical design at Stanford University and would spend 80% of her life in a library if she could. More info available at studioforcreativeinquiry.org.
Wednesday, April 4th at 5:00 p.m. in IDeATe Studio B (HL 106C), Insook Choiand Robin Bargar from the University of Salford will be giving a talk on "Mediating Urban Scenarios." Professor Choi will address a design and technological framework to embrace a multitude of sensorial and immersed urban experience. Beyond visual and sound stimuli, things that are experienced and describable include networks, infrastructure, data, and stories. Professor Bargar will address design tools that extend virtual geometries and appearances to represent embedded and responsive systems. What are the agents to produce and mediate among people, practice, and technologies?
On Thursday, April 5th at 4:30 p.m. in IDeATe Studio A (HL 106B), folks from Bungie will be on campus to discuss game development culture. Peter Kugler, a tools engineering lead at Bungie, will be opening with an introduction about his journey into game development, and will then provide a brief talk on the history of Bungie and what it's like working at the studio. He will then go into the design process used for building strikes in Destiny, and conclude with an overview of the engineering internship program and the internship roles that we are recruiting for the summer. Following the talk Peter and Bryan, from Bungie will be available to answer questions and take resumes.
