Student Roundtable with Louis Gomez, Simon Initiative Distinguished Lecture
Please join Louis Gomez, this year's Simon Initiative Distinguished Lecture, for a student roundtable discussion this Thursday, November 19, 2:30-3:30 pm.
Gomez is a professor of education and information studies at UCLA and a senior fellow at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. His research and design efforts are aimed at helping to support community formation in schools and other orgranizations so that they can collaboratively create new approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment. Please join the School of Art for their first Student/Futures, a monthly career series highlighting professions across creative fields! The first panel, this Friday, November 20 at 4:00 pm will cover VR/AR, virtual production, and immersive media design. The featured experts will be Jessica Brillhart, from the MxR Lab at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies; Joanna Popper from HP; Kay Meseberg from ARTE; and Timoni West from Unity Technologies. Join the Computer Club for Demosplash, its 10th annual computer art and vintage computing festival, streaming live online Friday, November 20, 5:00–10:30pm EST and Saturday, November 21, 2:00–10:00pm EST. While we can't have our usual in-person event, we're still excited to bring you the best of the demoscene, featuring:
- demos for platforms old and new screened LIVE on original hardware
- tech talks about digital archaeology, the Apple II, and algorithmic music composition
- demo submissions to our compos from around the world

Soft Tech: Visiting Artist
Please join the Intro to Textile Media class in welcoming an upcoming guest speaker!
Rosa Sung Ji Chang 장성지 is a Korean-born visual artist, natural indigo dyer, and storyteller. She takes her inspirations from reincarnation, a cultural pillar in Korea, and her firm belief of pursuing a non-wasteful lifestyle. On Tuesday, December 1 at 1:30 pm, Rosa Sung Ji Chang will speak about traditional Korean indigo dye methods, her creative practice, and growing a community dye garden in Baltimore, MD.
All are welcome to the two events. RSVP is required. The visitors were supported in part by funding from the Frank-Ratchye Fund for Art @ the Frontier and the Steiner Invitation Series.
