Indigo Dye Workshop
What is Indigo? Indigo is a plant grown for use as a blue dye material. We use it today thanks to the many people around the globe who, for centuries, have cultivated its growth and developed sophisticated techniques for its use. In this outdoor, in-person workshop* we will explore indigo immersion dyeing and shibori resist techniques (Japanese cloth binding for dyeing). Experience the unique qualities of indigo as your fabric goes into the bubbling green bath and emerges as a beautiful blue artifact.

*This is an in-person, outdoor, physically distanced event. Everyone will need to wear a mask and maintain physical distancing during attendance. Hand sanitizer and sanititzing wipes will be provided.
SURG, ISURG, and SURG/CW

Small Undergraduate Research Grants (SURG) are open to ALL undergraduates in any discipline, freshmen through seniors. Grants are available of up to $500 for single student entries and up to $1,000 for group entries to cover project expenses including but not limited to supplies and materials, time on laboratory equipment, or travel to another city for archival research. Students must conduct their research in person on campus or at an institution in Pittsburgh, or remotely while residing in the United States.
Research support is available through the Undergraduate Research Office for all disciplines – the Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, and the Sciences.
