NASA JPL Meet & Greet

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will be visiting campus this Thursday, September 14 and they want to meet IDeATe students! Join us in IDeATe Studio B (HL 106C), 5:30-6:30pm, to meet JPL representatives and to hear more about opportunities with them.

NASA JPL is a federally-funded research and development center based in Pasadena, CA. We are one off the ten NASA centers, and we are owned by NASA and administered by CalTech. JPL mainly works on the construction and operation of planetary robotic spacecraft, though we also do Earth-orbiting missions, astronomy missions, and the operation of the Deep Space Network.k JPL is most notable forits work on the Mars rovers, including Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, Perseverance. We currently have many missions in development, including Mars Sample Return and Europa Clipper. We are hiring across many areas, including astrobiology, astrophysics, mechanical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity, and human resources. You can find more information at jpl.jobs.

Field Trip to the STUDIO

We love our exciting, weird, wonderful intersection of art and tech in the basement of Hunt Library. But what else is going on around campus? Have you ever seen an event listing and thought, “Yeah, that sounds cool but…who’s going to be there? Do I have to go by myself?” Us, too. So, let’s go together.

This year, IDeATe staff, faculty, and students are going to try some field trips, kicking it off this Wednesday, September 13th. We’ll meet up by the IDeATe offices in Hunt Library A9 at 9:45am, then we’ll walk over to the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry (CFA 111) for a skills share event called, fittingly, School Picture Day. We’ll see how to use their network cameras with a demonstration of blending visuals in OBS. Then we’ll line up in front of their rig of experimental cameras to be immortalized. Our buddies in the STUDIO have promised “very, vibey learning,” which sounds spicy. We’d love for you to join us. An RSVP will help us to know how many to expect, but it’s not at all required. Just bring your sweet self and email help@ideate.cmu.edu if you have any questions.

FrIDeATe

Our first FrIDeATe of the semester is Friday, September 15th, 5-6pm, in the IDeATe common space (Hunt Library basement). Meet food, eat people…wait, no, that’s not right. Eat food, meet people, learn about IDeATe, chat with faculty.
